When Ash's father fought off a pack of possessed wolves to protect the life of an injured druid and the old man pronounced a blessing of the elements on all the fruits of his land, he never expected it to apply to the son he reared. Ever since he can remember, Ash has been driven by very strong feelings - the forces of the elements at work in his soul. At times he can be passionate and impulsive, like fire; at other times peaceful or even cold, like water frozen into ice. He has days of flighty mood swings, shifting back and forth freely like the wind. And at times, he's the epitome of stalwart dedication, as firm as rock. Worst of all are the times when he'll be seized by more than one impulse at a time, and it was on the most recent such occasion that he found himself joining a local gang.
His unpredictable mood-swings led him to take tutelage under a deposed landlord who spent his days in a bottle, whose former status as land-holder did not endear him to the local peasantry. The expressions of their displeasure were usually cut short when he demonstrated that he did, in fact, know how to fight.
Ash is looking for direction in his life. When he isn't feeling stable (which is most of the time), he seeks out other people to provide a structure for his life. He knows little of polite speech, but tries to affect the noble bearing of his former mentor (with some small success).
